Cherokee Trail has a storied past unique to Colorado that often goes overlooked. Lackluster signage and a distinct lack of place plagued the area where the overland trail once led carriages to Denver. To commemorate this historical trail, I designed a system of signs and monuments to bring the public’s much-deserved attention to this piece of history.










Considering how other trail markers look in the town was important in the process, but it was also desirable to create something unique to give the trail its own sense of place. Experimenting with materials and placement I decided upon a sign system that would integrate itself naturally into the space through color and material signifiers. It would also aim to reduce sun damage through a combination of awnings and solar panels so that the trail could be used in the dark.
